SEMO Christian Academy was established in 1978 by a group of Sikeston area Christian men. The school started off small but was able to add classes each year with total enrollment reaching approximately 160 students. The school had classes up through 10th grade with plans of adding 11th and 12th grade. There was a basketball team, a band, and they served hot meals from the cafeteria. However, in 1986 a tornado ripped through the area and wiped out the gymnasium, cafeteria, band room, and the science building. They were unable rebuild and maintain the school as it was prior to the tornado, but its Kindergarten and Preschool Programs survived and continue to shape the lives of many in the Sikeston area.
